Thanks for the comment.
I completely agree ...HI BW,
Thanks for the comment.
I completely agree that it makes perfect sense for a company whose brand name drug is still under patent to offer coupons to buy the brand name at the same price as the generic. This allows them to defend against patent infringement and appeal to price sensitive consumers who may be unable to afford full price to still get access to the brand name product. This is done without cutting the price offered to everyone and allows them to gain the profit needed to recoup investment costs, maintain the current company product line, and develop new drugs.
I cannot think of a good reason that the order of pharmacists would not accept your coupon. If they are trying to protect the consumer, I don't understand why they would deny you using the coupon. If they simply want to protect the generic drug maker, I cannot defend this action, especially if the drug is still on patent.Tim Grammerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06886070326027827975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-365627514450267461.post-6498531558840604672013-08-27T15:26:39.968-07:002013-08-27T15:26:39.968-07:00Here's a new wrinkle. The last time I went to the pharmacy to have the prescription filled, the pharmacist offered me a generic. I presented a card that my opthalmologist had given me, from the manufacturer of the brand-name eyedrop, that would allow me to buy the brand-name at the same price as the generic. Except that my pharmacist wouldn't accept it, on the advice of our provincial order of pharmacists. For the time being, I plan to carry on buying the name brand because I think it's unethical to buy the generic, for the reasons you outline in your excellent blog post. I don't see anything unethical in what the brand-name manufacturer is trying to do with its card: it's just trying to compete with the generic. I was thinking of writing to the order of pharmacists (and cc my politicians) to see what exactly the explanation is for refusing the card. I think that's unethical. I'd be interested in what Tim thinks. Have you ever heard of these cards?BWnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-365627514450267461.post-41954237360986182522013-07-09T00:34:36.851-07:002013-07-09T00:34:36.851-07:00very very informative stuff here you have posted ....very very informative stuff here you have posted . Generic medicine
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08068555245013626548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-365627514450267461.post-57204188633189480182012-03-04T16:26:47.113-08:002012-03-04T16:26:47.113-08:00WOW!!!!! everything I needed to know was explained...WOW!!!!! everything I needed to know was explained, in a way I can understand!!!!!!!!
